H55F 5 Spd and transfer case bought on ebay!

Bought a H55F 5spd gearbox and transfer case from ebay! Another great ebay purchase. Gearbox is in great condition, only cost $1100 + $130 for a mate to pick it up from Melbourne, good work Andrew! The gearboxes are $1800 for a reco if you have a H55F already, or $2800 to buy, so I figure it was a bargain! Now just gotta get the removalists to put it in their van. It weighs about 90kg and Andrew and I had fun pulling out of the back of his flash new Falcon! Now I have to decide on what engine to go for - either reco the old 3B currently in it or get a 13BT second hand! Either way this 5spd will be sweet on the highway!

The Beginning

The aim of this blog is to document my progress through my first ground up restoration of my recently acquired Toyta Landcruiser BJ42. Although mechanically adept (have replaced head gaskets, suspension, rebuilt a motorbike, normal vehicle engine repairs, etc) I have no formal training in any of the trades required to complete this restoration but in true Aussie spirit I will be giving them a go!

I bought this 1981 BJ42 from a bloke on a farm near Queanbeyan in Jul 2011. Paid $1500. It had been only driven around the past owners farm for the past 10 years. i think that I am the third owner but can't be sure. The cruiser runs and is drivable but requires a reco on the engine, both diffs, transmission and transfer case and all brakes. The body has a little rust which will need to be repaired. The body will get a full strip down and respray.
