The Beginning

The aim of this blog is to document my progress through my first ground up restoration of my recently acquired Toyta Landcruiser BJ42. Although mechanically adept (have replaced head gaskets, suspension, rebuilt a motorbike, normal vehicle engine repairs, etc) I have no formal training in any of the trades required to complete this restoration but in true Aussie spirit I will be giving them a go!

I bought this 1981 BJ42 from a bloke on a farm near Queanbeyan in Jul 2011. Paid $1500. It had been only driven around the past owners farm for the past 10 years. i think that I am the third owner but can't be sure. The cruiser runs and is drivable but requires a reco on the engine, both diffs, transmission and transfer case and all brakes. The body has a little rust which will need to be repaired. The body will get a full strip down and respray.
